Logically, we knew that possible greatness would arise from the crossing of Thalion and Reckless lines. Hell, we were hoping for it. Through his sons El Diablo and Acute, Thalion had proven himself a sire of sires. Danger, likewise, was a proven broodmare through multi-record holder Tantamount and would-be champion Serenity.

That being said, Danger had never thrown anything but chestnuts. Thus, though a little section in everyone's mind screeched that another black Thalion colt was possible, we didn't hold out much hope.

During the months approaching Danger's due date, BCC Stables and its staff had to morph itself to compensate for the chaos that came with housing a Triple Crown champion and four Eclipse winners out of a five-horse crop. Not only did the staff have to juggle barn life and the horses' schedules, they were forced to slip into their day to day lives the attention of the media and the world. Management suffered most. As a result, each person withdrew a little more from the world with every passing day. Trainer Ling Po was the most uncomfortable of them all and barely stepped foot on BCC soil anymore, choosing instead to hide in the various track barns our racers were located in. TJ and Rafe were hit nearly as hard, however, if not more so. As owner and Head Manager, respectively, the two of them received more than their fare share of media attention.

As a result, TJ was not there the day Danger foaled--a first for the dedicated owner. Rafe, Grandpa Jenkins, and BCC Broodmare Manager Donny Smith were present, but could only watch from the sidelines as the wet bundle plopped into the paddock grass.

Grandpa Jenkins rubbed his old eyes and squinted. "That's a mighty dark chestnut," he mumbled almost to himself. Donny spared the wriggling foal only a cursory glance, choosing instead to run his intelligent gaze over Danger to check for any obvious problems that could have occured during the birth.

Rafe, however, only had eyes for the foal. He began to shake. It's just another coincidence, he assured himself silently. We all thought Serenity would be a duplicate and we were wrong. I'm wrong about this one, too.

But he wasn't.

Two days later, TJ returned home and immediately rushed to Danger's paddock and leaped onto the fence. Her keen blue gaze instantly spied the ebony hide wiggling half underneath Danger's belly. As if sensing her presence, the all black colt lifting his head; Thalion's electric blue gaze stared back at her and froze her where she stood.

"Impossible," she breathed. Yet there he was, an exact replica of his older brother, El Diablo.

Temperment: When the first groom to approach the colt was met with bared teeth and eyes that spit fire, we all groaned and thought Li was another El Diablo. That assessment was wrong. A true alpha male, Li can and will harm others, but only if they pose a threat to him or his. He has a sharp, quick mind and a natural-born instinct to protect. If something threatens him or someone/something he calls his own, punishment will be swift and brutal. That being said, he also possesses a devious streak. Many a stablehand has found themselves with their pants around their ankles and a chewed-through belt lying uselessly on the ground nearby.
