Description

Adult Pic

I leased my mare Winslet Rose out many seasons ago to three people. Only 2 collected on the lease, and I was therefore left with an "empty" season with no foal! That, of course, would not due for my matriarch thoroughbred.

Thus, I give you Nightshade. :dummy:

It's quite obvious that I draw ponies as therapy. I don't like drawing people as therapy. It stresses me. Therefore, poor Robby and the tack aren't colored or shaded. :XD:

Out of all the foals Winslet Rose has foaled in the past, only Jacques could run longer than 8 furlongs.

Ghost Pirate sires sprinters, too, though he has had more distance horses than we had originally thought he would.

We knew based on Intuned's and Edward's racing styles that there was a very good chance the last Rose x Pirate foal we bred would be a sprinter, and we were right.

It seemed that Nightshade hit the ground at full speed and just kept going. Intuned was fast; Shade was faster. Edward was clever and agile; Shade made him look like a klutz.

The press went nuts when he started racing for multiple reasons: He was a blue-blood, a Pirate x Rose pairing that had already twice proven successful on the graded stakes level. He was big and black and bold like his sister, Intuned, while his eyes were the same pale shade as El Diablo's.

And he was a BCC-bred colt who would race under the now-famous black dotted blue silks.

His name was enough to send shivers down the spine, and his girth didn't help win him brownie points.

With a thick neck and giant, bulging leg muscles, our dark colt was more hulkish than not. Somehow, though, he was able to move those muscles and that 16hh frame around all opponents to win three out of the five races he started in his freshman year. Two of them were graded stakes.

At first glance, Nightshade was a demon with a white face and three paint-dipped legs. It was the eyes that gave him away, though.

You see, Shade didn't choose to be a brute. He was simply born that way.

No, Shade wanted to be a bunny rabbit, or a kitten perhaps, who could curl up in your lap as you sat in the sunwarmed paddock. He wanted to be your BEST FRIEND and very quickly became famous around the barn for his whiskery kisses.

Shade was no demon. He was a happy not-so-little cherub with the body of a beast and a heart of pure mush.
